Manual Handling/Ergonomics
Positively affect individual and team behaviours
Thrive’s best practice manual handling training increases individual and team awareness around how they think, how they prepare, how they perform tasks, and how well they work together.
Ensure injury prevention at the workplace is taken seriously
No one wants to get injured, we sometimes just find ourselves in a complacent mindset or even desensitised to the surrounding risks. Our training is designed to put heads and hearts back into workplace safety.
Build a ‘collective want’ to not get injured
Our aim is to make workplace injury prevention a priority. It’s only once an employee has a ”want” to not getting injured will they then proactively look to prevent one from occurring.
Ensure all staff understand the wide reaching effects of injuries
It’s important to not lose sight of how impactful an injury can be on both your professional and personal life. We look to connect employees to all the reasons as to why an injury is worth preventing.
Drive down injury rates by exploring a series of manual handling lifting techniques
Understanding how to move safely and efficiently are both critical components of injury prevention. Our training aims to educate employees on correct lifting and movement techniques so they can significantly reduce their risk of getting injured.
Build awareness of how to protect the spine
Protecting our spine throughout our life is an integral part of being able to move freely and without pain. A critical component of back protection is the utilisation of core muscles. Our training will educate staff on how to engage and strengthen these very important muscles, resulting in stronger bodies and more efficient movement.
Ensure staff understand the relationship between their mental well-being in the workplace and best practice manual handling
Distraction, complacency and disinterest all happen above the shoulders. Our aim is to connect employees to the relationship between their mental well-being and their safety in the workplace.
Create a mindset that staff are office or industrial athletes – warm up, work smart, warm down
Athletes and employees have one thing in common. They both need their bodies to function well and be pain free to be able to perform at their best. Our training aims to highlight the relationship between proactively managing our bodies and improved physical performance. Become an industrial/office athlete and significantly reduce your risk of injury.
Outline the importance of maintaining a healthy weight range to reduce injury risk
Unfortunately, the current state of Australian physical health is not great. A greater demand for us to sit in front of computers and not get up and be physically active, in conjunction with over sized, high sugary, readily available foods, has resulted in many of us finding it difficult to shift the kg’s. Our interactive training will highlight the relationship between increased body mass and injury risk. We’ll help employees learn and build strategies to help shift the unwanted kg’s and ultimately improve their safety.
Make staff the manual handling and ergonomic experts – facilitate teams to discuss best practice manual handling techniques
Our training is designed to be easily understood and easily implemented.
It is rare for employees to finish a manual handling training session with Thrive trainers and say anything other than how much they enjoyed it, how different it was to what they’ve done in the past, and how important it will be to injury prevention in the workplace.
Our ability to motivate employees to transfer theory to practical application is what sets us apart.
Employees often turn up to our manual handling training thinking it will be a waste of their time, that it will just be another group teaching them how to sit up straight and pick up a box.
In Thrive lead manual handling training sessions, it doesn’t take long before that mindset completely changes.
Employees soon find themselves on a journey into mental health, into how their mind works and why some people act and react the way they do. It also asks them to consider the wide reaching effects of sustaining a physical injury.
In essence, Thrive trainers value the challenge of building desire into employees that creates teams that not only look out for each other but do all they can to not get injured.
